USCF to Vote on Rule Changes

New Rules coming?

The USCF will be voting on possible rule changes on 11/6-7.  The key items in question are:

  1. Field sizes (100 if not stated)
  2. No carbon or tubular wheels for juniors
  3. Possibly a Single Speed Championship race at Nationals (Elite men 1-2 & Elite women 1-3)
  4. No helmet cams or visors (this if for you, Alex Wilson and Ryan Hughs)
  5. 80% rule. Under this rule, riders whose time gap to the race leader is at least 80% of the race leaders time for the first lap will be pulled by the officials unless it is the final lap.
  6. No hipsters allowed!  All bikes must have a freewheel and two brakes.*

*there’s talk of adding an amendment to this not allowing tight fitted hipster pants, as they would create an unfair advantage to those who choose to wear baggies.

For a much more detailed break down of these possible rules changes, you can read Kat Statman’s article at CXmagazine.  She has done a terrific job of hitting on all the key points.

More to come after the votes are tallied.

I am interested to see how the whole SS champs works out. Since there are likely to be a bunch of fast guys that aren’t 1-2 specifically because they only races SS. And with a majority of Pros hitting Portland and then likely to stay in OR for Bend why not hit the SS race as a mid week tune up for the big race on Sunday… Maybe since they are already going to be there we will get to Trebon and company limit their bikes and give us a preview of Sunday.while they get to know the course.
