Life Lessons

We’ve all been touched by cancer in one way or another.  A family member or a friend; young or old, health or not, unfortunately cancer is not picky.  Just a few days ago my girlfriend lost one of her best friends to cancer.  Her name was Nicole Lariviere.

Hearing Nicole’s story is as sad as it is motivating.  It’s sad because I know what she meant to Suzie and those around her.  It’s motivating because it reminds me that life is short.  Live it as tomorrow might not come. I had already vowed to make 2011 a year of firsts. My first bike packing trip, first kayak trip, first 24 solo race in over 10 years. I’m even more motivated to do all of this and more now. You just don’t know what tomorrow will bring. As my tag line says, “Get out there!”

Like most of you that follow my site Nicole was an athlete. She was also a friend to many, a daughter, and inspiration. She had just competed in her second half marathon just days before finding out she was sick.  I don’t care how you cut it, that’s one tough lady.

I know many people who either have cancer, beat it, or lost to it.  It’s never easy to hear cancer stories.  So take a moment and remember theose who are fighting for each day and those we’ve lost.  If you want to go a step further Suzie is going to forgo giving present or receiving them this holiday and she will be donating the money to cancer research instead.

Please leave a comment and I’ll send you more information.

Very nice words and a loving tribute. A good reminder to break out of the day to day humdrum of the illusion of life and live for real! GET OUT THERE!!
