MFG #3 Pacific Race Way

Wow! Today was epic. I usually love mud and embrace it but after doing my one and only warm up lap I was not in love. I felt like I was riding in one big puddle. I put my feelings aside, because after all Rich McClung put together another great course. I had to do my best to enjoy his offering. I focused and remembered I love adverse conditions and I was ready.

Monsoon

After a short warm up on the trainer it was time to go. This coincided with the gale force winds and monsoon like rain which blew threw before our start. I heard my teammates calling for me to grab the holeshot so not to disappoint I drilled it and took the lead at the gun.
I would hold it until the pits and slowly I slide back to my normal 10th or so. As the race went on I felt good and started to pick people off who had stormed by me earlier. I would battle with Ross Gilbert of Old Town I believe. Along the way we picked up Aaron Erbeck from Rubicon who nipped at my heals the last three laps.
I did my best to shake the both of them but they both fought hard to stay in the game. Ross passed me just after the Fly Over and gaped me a bit. I clawed back and caught him a short way onto the finish straightaway. I stayed in his slip stream for just a second before diving across the road in a full sprint. I could see him giving chase in the corner of my mud filled eye, (I forgot my glasses in my jacket pocket at the start). Determined to win the sprint I dropped my head and gave it my all.
My effort was good enough for 8th on the day and my best finish this year so far. I was crushed afterward. My thighs feel like they were used as the heavy bag at a boxing gym. I was so cold and whet it would take me the whole single speed race after mine to stop from shaking. I hope the video I took isn’t all shaky.
