Green Trails Map #209

NW Forest Pass Required

Current conditions:

Trail 1383 Johnson-Medra is in good condition for the first mile to mile and a half.  After that the trail gets down to the creek and the vegetation gets thick.  Once the tread gains ten feet or so the vegetation is manageable again.  Things get pretty overgrown after 4 miles in but at mile 6 or so you start to switch back away from the creek and up to the Junction with the Koppen Trail #1225.

If youre riding you will have to push over half of miles 6.5 to 7.5.  Note its worth it and the pushing isnt that bad.

The descent from the ridge is hair raising and a lot of the switch backs are washed out and un-rideable due to erosion and dirt bikes.  Again the walking is work it.  Once into the forest again the trail rips through an open forest bringing you to Trail 11393.

Trail 1393 is an old road so its wide and an easy grade.  There are sections of it that youll ride on loose rock making traction and balancing hard.  At what appears to be a 4 way intersection go left down a steep hill a cross the creek.  After another mile you cross the creek again before a short section of trail where Trail 1392.1  comes in on the right.

Trail 1392.1 De Roux Spur  climbs a beautiful hillside meadow up to another ridge and the northern terminus of the Koppen Trail.  This climb is totally rideable if you have the skills and legs.

Drop in to the north side of the ridge on Trail 1392.1 and your rewarded with sweet switchbacks all the way to Boulder De Roux Trail 1392, which leads back to the CG.

Whether your hiking or biking this loop offers plenty of water, views, wild flowers and most of all seclusion.  We saw 5 people all day and they were all within a half mile of the trail head.
