Welcome to Adventures of Scatman!

It’s my hope that my blog will cover all my outdoor adventures in one place.  If your a runner, cyclist, hiker, or general adventurist, then you will hopefully enjoy this blog.  Since my focus has changed from cycling to running you’ll be seeing more running post for a while.  Later in the year cyclocross will start and I’ll post more cycling related posts.  There will be hiking posts throughout since I can do that anytime.

I grew up in New England and the outdoors was always a part of my life.  As a child I spent summers camping and fishing.  Cycling started for me in my junior year of high school and I’m still doing it today at 37.  During and then again after college the hiking bug took hold and in 2001 I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, then in 2003 I hiked the Long Trail in Vermont.  Up until I moved to Seattle I was working on hiking the 100 highest peaks in New England and got about 60-70 of them in the bag.

My move to Seattle was to be closer to the mountains and the area offered better cycling weather throughout the year.  After a few years here I decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail.  It was that same year, 2007, that I won the Washington State Cyclocross Championship in the Men’s B.  In 2008-9 I raced in the Cascade Cream Puff, a 100 mile mountain bike race.  2008’s race was the hardest single day in my life.  It was harder than the solo 24 hour mountain bike race I did years before.  Since the PCT I’ve mostly cycled and done a few weekend hikes.

As you follow me through this blog you’ll come to see I’m highly driven by the idea of how far, fast or high I can go.  I’m one of those people who constantly challenge themselves physically and mentally.
