PCT 2007 – Day 24 – San Simeon Village – Prismo Beach SP

Stage 24 4-18-07
San Simeon Village – Prismo Beach SP
60.75 miles; 1399.44 total miles; 14.3 mph avg.; 4:14 hours
Sunny, some wind, high 50’s to low 60’s

My night in the hotel was well spent, since the wind was blowing hard throughout most of the night. I slept well and was up at 7. I partook of the free breakfast which wasn’t much and was going by 8 or so.

The stage was tailormade for the sprinters today. I made it to Cambria, which was just 6 miles away, in no time. Once there, I found the laundry mat and washed my stuff. My clothes had gotten to the point where they felt dirty when I touched them. They had an oily, sweaty thing going on. Next door to the laundry mat was a little diner so I went over for a second breakfast. In honor of my friends, Adam and Ron, I got the breakfast burrito. “So tasty!” as Adam would say.

I then had a small rise to the next town of Harmony on Bus. Rt. 1. I rejoined Rt. 1 and it was flat out all the way to Cayucos. Not really; but, I averaged higher then any place else on the trip. I pulled into Cayucos with a 14.9 mph avg.

Next came Morro Bay and a navigational error on the way out town. I missed a turn and had to take a slightly longer route to San Luis Obispo(SLO). Lucky for me I had a sweet tailwind.

I got to SLO for lunch. I spotted a pizza place so I made a u-turn and ate my heart out. From there it was back roads through SLO to Pismo Beach. I got to Pismo around 2:30 PM. Unfortunately there isn’t any campgrounds for quite a way. Too far to make it to today! That is okay because I got to shower early and had some time to bird watch. I was able to see a few new birds for my life list too.

I have a nice little spot next to a cluster of trees so the wind shouldn’t be an issue. Not much sun in my site; but it’s not too chilly.

Glove count is 28.

Scatman 2011- Even though this was only about 10 miles less than yesterdays stage it felt so much easier.  It’s amazing how much the terrain and weather played a part in how hard a day was.  I eat well on this day.  Breakfast was amazing; lunch in SLO was great, not just the pizza but all the pretty college girls in town; and dinner was good too since I was able to shop and get exactly what I wanted at that moment, instead of what I had in my bag.

It was nice to get to camp early and get a change to walk around and bird watch and just relax.  It got tiring just having to put the miles in day after day without much of a break.  Never in my life had I cycled so many days in a row.
